I am Sparrowhawk (Jay Ray). For years I searched for my Ancestral roots, and in so doing, came to know about the shamanic world. Not only the Amerindian culture, but a deep understanding that each culture, each tribe, each race, had its own shamanic teachings and teachers. I found that we all, at our core, accepted the energetic Oneness that is at the basis of all life. We learned to journey between the realities that are the plant and animal worlds and the worlds of our Ancestors. As such, we had respect for all living beings and knew that all was indeed alive, conscious and intelligent: even the rocks beneath our feet and the planet that is our home. Somewhere in history, we began to desire power that we might control those things we found inconvenient about living as part of a whole. We began to separate ourselves away from the Web of Life and to pretend we alone were alive and intelligent... and we lost our conscience! Now we find it hard to view even our neighbour as equal with ourselves and we place everything in a hierarchy with us at the top and the Earth at the very bottom. This has given us permission in our own minds to rape and destroy all that we place below us, and that changes according to the political sentiment at the time. The outcome is that we have placed everything in danger, and we are only now beginning to see the consequences of our actions. We still don't see that our actions are the consequences of our thinking and that our thinking is the consequence of our lack of feeling. Now its time to redress these omissions. We need to put ourselves back into the web of life, by taking ourselves off our hierarchical pedestal, beginning to embrace our neighbours, human, bird, plant and planet alike. Shamans can still show the way for they have survived in every race in some way or another. The wisdom still lives in our DNA, held there since the dawn of time. It shares journeys that the reader can take to begin to walk the other pathways of the Web, and reconnect with 'all life'. In so doing, we revitalize our connection, reenergize our respect for life, and find new ways of honouring each other. When this occurs, the result is love, and we must begin to love again or we will never place the importance we must on the decisions that will save us all.
